I am a Data Analyst and Computer Science educator based in Namibia, and a Master’s student in Educational Technology at the University of Namibia. I am passionate about integrating open-source software into education and making technology learning more accessible, especially in under-resourced environments. My work and research focus on the adoption of open-source tools by Computer Science teachers, and I enjoy building practical, data-driven applications with Python and Django that connect real world data to the classroom.

Python in Orbit: Exploring Space Data and Building Web Apps with Django

Long Workshop
This workshop is aimed at beginner Python developers who want practical experience using Django with external APIs. It is especially suitable for developers who understand basic Python and want to see how real-world data can be turned into a working web application. Participants will start by exploring a public space-related API and learning how to retrieve and interpret its data using Python. From there, we will build a small Django application that fetches this data and displays it in a clean, user-friendly interface. Along the way, we will cover common patterns such as making HTTP requests, working with JSON, and structuring Django views and templates. I have presented this workshop at DjangoCon Afrika in 2023: https://github.com/Kanhalelor/DjangoCon/tree/master I also wrote a blog about it: https://hashnode.com/post/going-to-space-with-python-cketsgk0o0036oys1ccy05z8p
